Joseph Smith and the Bible - Introduction
Jesus Christ said that many who believe in Him will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
So the question is…
Could we Mormons be among them?
Introduction to Joseph Smith and the Bible
The Problem We Face
We Mormons—members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, have a major problem!
According to Jesus Christ – not all who claim to follow Him enter into the kingdom of heaven!
Christ’s Warning: Few Will Find Life
Matthew 7 :13,14
13. Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14. Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Matthew 7:21-23
21. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works?
23. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
It is clear here that Christ was talking to His followers when He said: “strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” and “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.”
Are We Being Warned?
This is where we Mormons may be in serious trouble…eternally.
Here in Mark 13, is Christ calling us Mormons out specifically?
Mark 13:21,22
21. And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:
22. For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
We Mormons have claimed that Jesus Christ “Lo’s here” with our Church!
We claim that Jesus Christ has appeared to and or talked to Joseph Smith, not once but many times!
We claim that our living prophets have continual revelation from Jesus Christ.
Additionally, the last that I understand, almost 98% of the Christian religions do not have prophets.
The Catholics do not have prophets, the Methodists, the Presbyterians, the Baptists and so on, do not have prophets.
So, in these quoted passages, Christ is not referring to them.
He is specifically warning against those religions/people who profess to have a prophet or be a prophet.
Since Joseph Smith’s time, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints certainly has professed to having living prophets.
Christ is calling out our Church here!
Warning Against Those “Who Preach Any Other Gospel”
Another scriptural passage that doesn’t abide well for us Mormons is Paul’s teaching that Christians will be deceived and that those “who preached any other gospel” would be cursed.
Galatians 1:6-9
6. I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7. Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
WOW! If we Mormons are teaching false doctrine, or teaching “any other gospel” than what Christ and His original Apostles taught, then we will “be accursed!”
This warning can also be attributable to all other Christian religions.
If the leaders of the many different Christian Churches out there are not teaching what Christ or His Apostles taught, then they are in danger of “being accursed” too.
Our Responsibility: Find the Truth
So now we are faced with a serious responsibility:
👉 We must find out who the deceivers really are.
Because both are warned about in scripture:
Those who deceive
And those who are deceived
And neither inherit the kingdom of heaven.
How Do We Know a True Prophet?
How are we going to Know Who the Deceivers Are?
Now, with Christ’s warning about “false prophets,” then there must also be “true prophets” out here!
In Matthew 7 – Christ confirms the existence of possible “true prophets” when He taught us how to know the difference between a ‘false prophet” and a “true prophet.”
Matthew 7:20
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
So what does that mean?
Let’s look at the fruits of biblical prophets:
Noah saved mankind and the animal kingdom by building a boat for the great flood.
Through Moses, God established the Ten Commandments, the first tabernacle or portable temple, and led the Jews out of bondage.
Through Abraham was established the 12 tribes of Israel.
Through Isaiah God prophesied of Christ’s coming, His crucifixion, resurrection and His Second Coming.
Through Solomon, Christ built the Solomon Temple.
All of these ancient prophets had great works… ”By their fruits ye shall know them!”
What This Channel Will Do
It is my intent in this YouTube channel… “The Mormon Mann,” to challenge Joseph Smith and 90 of his so-called Restored Teachings!
Not wanting to be “accursed” myself, I will use only the King James version of the Bible to show what support it says about each teaching.
I will not sugar coat my findings. I will include all of the most controversial teachings such as:
The Apostacy
The Restoration
The Greater and the Lesser Priesthood,
The Mormon Temples which we call “The House of the Lord.”
Polygamy
The Blacks and the Priesthood
and the teaching that men and women can become gods
Nothing will be off-limits.
The Biblical Support Chart
In order to record and follow the results of my findings, I will be making, what I call a “Biblical Support Chart.”
It will list each teaching along with the scriptures that we believe support that particular teaching and admit to the lack thereof of any scriptural support!
What Comes Next
In my next video, I will be discussing “The Playing Field.”
Joseph Smith’s claim to the “Great Apostacy.” This is where he claims that upon the death of the original Apostles, the priesthood authority eventually died out too. This authority from Christ was what authorized certain ordinances like baptisms, the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and certain “bindings” that were also “bound” in heaven.
